Description

A semiprecious form of chalcedony, compact microcrystalline variety of quartz. The characteristic band colours are determined by the differing minerals present as the agate forms. Agate is formed in cavities in volcanic lava, silica rich waters solutions penetrate into the cavities and form a layer of silica gel, this process repeats until the cavity is filled and eventually the gel solidifies forming Agate.
